A former minister of Commerce during the Second Republic, Ballo Maitama Yusuf, has died aged 78.
The Dutse Emirate Council confirmed the death on its Facebook page, saying the late former minister, who held the title of Sardaunan Dutse, died in the early hours of Friday.
The council therefore extends its condolences to the emir, family and people of the emirate.
The late politician was a minister for Internal Affairs in 1979 and minister for Commerce in 1982.
He was elected to the Nigerian Senate for the Jigawa South West constituency in April 1999 and reelected in April 2003.
Educated at North Gate University, Washington and was a member of the defunct National Party of Nigeria.
