A sudden declaration by the embattled Senator representing Kogi West in the National Assembly, Dino Melaye, to join the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has thrown the entire Senate into a rowdy session.
Mr Melaye is attending the Senate plenary today, Wednesday, after long weeks of absence caused by injuries he had sustained during his scuffle with the Nigerian Police in a bit to escape arrest.
As a result, the Senator had been in the intensive care department of the National Hospital, Abuja
Mr Melaye, who appeared in the chamber with a neck support, asked the leadership of the National Assembly to create a seat for him at the opposition wing of the chamber, a development that sparked off reactions and insinuations to the effect that he is pitching a tent with the opposition party.
However, raising a point of order on Wednesday, Mr Melaye thanked his colleagues, members of the House of Representatives, his constituents, the leadership of the PDP and the Nigerian populace for standing by him during his travails with the Senate.
Thereafter, he announced he would sit beside former Senate President, David Mark, pending the time a seat will be allocated to him.
He was thereafter aided by some of his colleagues to his preferred seat.
