The Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawan, has described senators’ call for his resignation as “nonsense, absolutely nonsense”.
Some senators had at earlier called for Mr. Lawan’s removal and prosecution, following alleged complicity in the diversion of the North East humanitarian funds and inflation of contract.
This followed the presentation of interim report of the Adhoc Committee on Mounting Humanitarian Crisis in the North East by the Chairman of the Committee, Shehu Sani.
Presenting the report, Mr. Sani said some of the contracts were awarded to companies belonging to top government officials’ cronies and family members.
Mr. Sani explained that the committee found out that Global Vision Engineering Limited, a company, with Mr. Lawal as Director, for instance, was awarded consultancy contract.
But in response to the senators’ call, Mr. Lawan told journalists that it is “nonsense, absolutely nonsense”.
Asked by a BBC reporter to repeat what he said in Hausa, the SGF said: “maganar banza, maganar wofi”.
