A Senator representing Abia Central Senatorial District, Darlington Nwokocha, on Monday, moved a motion for the suspension of the ministerial screening of a ministerial nominee from Delta State, Festus Keyamo.

The motion was seconded by his colleague from Abia-South Senatorial District, Enyinnaya Abaribe.

Citing Section 88B, the lawmakers mandate the Senate to step down the screening of Mr Keyamo for “publicly ignoring summons from the national assembly”.

The motion erupted into a rowdy session in the upper chamber.

While the argument got heated, Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, subjected the motion to a voice vote.

The lawmakers were, however, divided on the matter.

The Senate Majority Leader, Opeyemi Bamidele, thereafter called for a closed-door session.

Mr Akbabio then announced that the Senate would enter a closed session.

Earlier, Mr Keyamo said he had given up hope of serving in the Federal Executive Council until his nomination by President Bola Tinubu on Friday.

“On Friday, when my name was announced on this floor, I already packed my bags to go on a family vacation because I’d given up any hope to be here.

“All of a sudden, they said my name had been announced. I had to cancel the trip.” Mr Keyamo said of his ministerial appointment.
