Kano State Governorship Candidate of the Green Party of Nigeria, GPN, Abdulsalam Abdulkareem Zaura, has registered his condolence to the family of the late Shehu Shagari, who died last week Friday at the National Hospital, Abuja.
In a statement he personally signed, the gubernatorial candidate described the late Shagari as a great icon worthy of emulation.
According to him, the first republic president was a great patriot and great leader who gave his life for his motherland.

He said: “Truly, late President Shagari had been a great patriot and great leader, who gave his life for his motherland.
“He lived an exemplary life that remains worthy of emulation to most especially the youths and the leaders of Nigeria.
“Nigeria will forever miss the fatherly pieces of advice by the late President because he died at a time Nigeria and Nigerians need him much.
“We pray the youths will continue nursing all his intellectual pieces of advice and also the leaders to emulate him on his exemplary life,” said the GPN gubernatorial candidate.
Similarly, Mr Zaura extended his condolence to President Muhammadu Buhari and the good people of Sokoto State and the nation as a whole.
He prayed that the soul of Mr Shagari rests in perfect peace.
In the same vein, Mr Zaura wished all Nigerians a prosperous new year and hitch-free general elections.
“I wish to seize this opportunity to wish all Nigerians a prosperous New Year, and hitch-free general elections,” he said.
