The Senator representing Kaduna Central in the Senate, Shehu Sani, on Thursday expressed optimism that the on-going face-off between himself and Governor Nasir El-Rufai would soon be over.
Mr Sani, who is known for his open criticisms against the government of President Muhammadu Buhari, is also in a fierce political battle with Governor. Nasir El-Rufa’i.
With that, the senator had severally been rumoured to have dumped the ruling party and had repeatedly debunked the rumour.
Recall that a few days after the defection of prominent lawmakers from the APC into the Peoples Democratic Party, Mr Buhari on Wednesday night held a closed-door meeting with all the APC senators, in his effort to stem further cross carpeting from the ruling party.
Speaking to BBC Hausa Service on Thursday on the outcome of their meeting with Mr Buhari, the controversial lawmaker revealed that the president had assured them of his readiness to intervene in the crises that rocked the party in their respective states.
According to him, the president appealed to them to remain in the party in its quest for power come 2019.
Mr Sani also noted that with the new National Chairman of APC, Adams Oshiomole, the party’s crises would soon become history.
“It is clear that our crisis with our governors is what prompted some of us leave APC. However, the president assured us of his intervention.
“The president appealed to us not to join our brothers that defected just recently. He assured us that he would wade in to the party’s crises in our respective states.
“You know, the leadership of Oshiomole would provide a level ground and restore peace in APC. So we will wait and see what the future holds,” he said
DAILY NIGERIAN recalls that even last month, Mr Sani had to debunk a rumour making the rounds that he dumped APC for PDP via his twitter handle
