A popular Kannywood actor and National Treasurer of the Motion Pictures Association of Nigeria, MOPPAN, Nura Hussein, popularly known as ‘Ya Sayyidi’, has criticised the Kaduna-based Islamic Scholar, Sheikh Abubakar Gumi, “for engaging in partisan political tantrums unbecoming of an Islamic scholar of his own standing.”
Recall that the cleric had been critical of the President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration, as well as Governor Abdullahi Ganduje of Kano over his alleged bribery videos published by the DAILY NIGERIAN newspaper some time ago.
However, speaking with newsmen in Kano, the actor cum politician, called on the people to ignore the cleric “who abused his privileged position by making pronouncements that are very embarrassing to the Gumi family, Izalah Movement in Nigeria and all followers of his late father, Sheikh Mahmood Abubakar Gumi.
According to him, Mr Gumi is an insult to the prestigious seat he is occupying as the spiritual leader of Sultan Bello Mosque Kaduna.
He said: “I am a passionate supporter of Ganduje and President Muhammadu Buhari. Now, since the video or bribery allegation by one Jaafar Jaafar against the Governor is a mere allegation that is yet to be confirmed, how can Gumi who claimed to be a respected Islamic scholar will comment on issue that is a mere allegation?
“I am disappointed by him and we will continue to challenge him whenever he goes astray. I don’t have to be a member of Izalah Movement for me to challenge Gumi because the Holy Qur’an is only one and it is the same Holy Book that we and Gumi are relying on to worship Almighty Allah.
“Gumi lacks the capacity to challenge Buhari or Ganduje on pages of Newspapers. If he wants to be in politics, let him register with PDP which he is supporting and contest for Governorship of Kaduna State or any office for that matter. Then when his people elect him, he can now make all statements that he wants as the representatives of his people.”
