The Shiites faction under the auspices of Shi’a Progressives has faulted recent statements credited to some ‘Wahabi scholars in Kaduna’ which declared them as a security threat to the country.
DAILY NIGERIAN reports that Northern Islamic scholars, who gathered in Kaduna on Sunday for a book presentation on the “Fallacy of Shi’ites beliefs,” authored by Prof. Umar Labdo, had described the group as a security threat to the country.
However, the group, in a statement signed by its secretary, Muhammad Bin-Ibrahim, asserted that Shiite organizations such as RAAF, Haidar Center, Thaqafatuth Thaqalyn, Attaqreeb and many other registered groups are known to be peaceful in all their dealings.
“Our attention has been called to a publication wherein some self-titled ‘Islamic Scholars’ at a Book Launch in Arewa House Kaduna, labelled the Shi’ites as a threat to national security,” the statement read in part.
The secretary queried how the group could be a threat to the nation’s security at a time when IMN; an ominous Shia organisation in Nigeria is having a tough time with the government without any retaliatory backlash.
Mr Bin-Ibrahim said: “It is unarguable that that group has exercised laudable caution and patience through their leader’s unlawful and illegal incarceration.
“Here is a man whose kids were killed by the State unlawfully, shot and bungled in the most dehumanizing way, while his followers are still killed on peaceful protests. What skewed logic would lead a sane person to presume that these same people are a threat to national security?
“The dense bumbling illogicality of Wahhabi scholars is confounding, at a period when their Boko Haram minions are wreaking havoc to most States in the country, with the rampaging herdsmen and unprecedented poverty levels, it’s ominous that the foresight of these scholars is not up to their noses,” he lamented.
He, therefore, called on the public to disregard the “malicious labelling of the group looking at the fora and composition of the wannabe scholars.”
According to him, it is regrettable how some people hide behind the facade of Islam to cause disunity among faiths and religions.
He stressed that Shia organisations are known to be peaceful in all their dealings, therefore not in the position to create chaos.
The group, therefore, called on security agents to digest and check activities of those trying to incite upheaval in the country.
“it is really about time that our security outfits do a check-up on these pseudo-scholars and their ideological leaning in order to determine what’s this national security the so-called Islamic scholars are talking about!,’’ the group stressed.
