A comprehensive skills acquisition programme that engages youths and women will address unemployment and restiveness, Prof Mohammed Haruna, Executive Vice-Chairman of the National Agency for Science, Engineering Infrastructure, NASENI, has said.
He said in Keffi, Nasarawa State that beneficial programmes also had the tendency to lure youths away from criminality.
Mr Haruna enjoined youths in the state to make positive use of their time to acquire education, knowledge and skills so as to be gainfully employed and become employers of labour in the future.
He also advised state governments in particular, public-spirited groups and individuals to promote skills acquisition as a way of empowering youths to become self-reliant.
He said that NASENI had started skills acquisition programmes and advised youths across the country to ensure they enrolled for a secured future.
Mr Haruna also commended the Youths in Nasarawa West for Socio-Political Development for providing a platform where young ones met, discussed and offered suggestions on tackling insecurity.
He added that the youths’ decision to build a strong network and partnership that cut across Nasarawa West was enviable and urged them to continue to be responsible and reliable to foster unity, peace and prosperity.
Mr Haruna is Patron of the Youths in Nasarawa West for Socio-political Development.
