In a last minute detour, the deputy governor of Sokoto State, Mannir Dan’iya, has shelved plans to join the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC.

DAILY NIGERIAN earlier reported that the deputy governor had allegedly sealed a $5million cross-carpeting deal with the ruling party.

Mr Dan’iya is currently the Sokoto Central senatorial candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

Insiders said President Muhammadu Buhari had planned to receive him on Thursday in Sokoto during a presidential rally.

In a letter dated February 8, 2023 and addressed to the Kware Ward PDP chairman, the deputy governor said, “I write notify you of withdrawal of my membership from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) with effect from 8! February 2023. I appreciate the opportunities given to me, which made me serve in various capacities under the PDP.”

But in another letter signed by Mr Dan’iya’s spokesman, Aminu Abubakar, the deputy governor denied joining the APC.

“Our attention has been drawn to a letter purportedly issued in Sokoto that the Sokoto State Deputy Governor Hon. Manir Dan’iya had resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

“This is untrue and a blatant lie. Hon. Manir Dan’ya is still a bonafide member of the PDP, to which he reaffirms his unwavering loyalty and support. He, hereby, dissociates himself from such letter stating that he had left the PDP,” Mr Abubakar said.
