The government of Sokoto State has flagged-off the electronic registration of foreign nationals living in the.
The exercise is being carried out by the Nigeria Immigration Services.
Speaking at the flagging-off ceremony, The governor of the state, Aminu Tambuwal, described the exercise necessary, in view of the prevailing security situation in the state and most parts of the country.
Mr Tambuwal was representedr by the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Sa’idu Ubandoma.
He regretted the alleged involvement of foreigners in criminal activities in the country.
Mr Tambuwal called on migrants to embrace the exercise, saying it would enhance their safety.
In his address, the Comptroller of Immigration in the state, Muhammad Hassan, noted that the exercise was geared towards enhancing internal security.
Mr Hassan said most of Nigeria’s security problems are being planned and funded from outside the country.
According to him, the e-registration would be conducted across the 23 local government areas in the state, fully funded by the state government.
