Speaker Abbas bags chieftaincy title in Ekiti

The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Dr. Tajudeen Abbas, has been conferred with a chieftaincy title of Agba-Akin of Ise by the Orinjale of Ise Ekiti, Oba Ayodele Ajayi, in Ekiti State.

The Senate spokesperson, Yemi Adaramodu, was also installed as Omo-Akin.

Speaking after the conferment, the Speaker who was represented by his Deputy Chief of Staff, Dr. Namdi Chanbani, restated the National Assembly’s commitment to revisit the bill on constitutional roles for traditional rulers in Nigeria.

Mr Abbas, who is also the Iya of Zazzau Emirate, explained that such constitutional roles would not only make them to be more relevant, but also help in maintaining political and economic growth as well as social cohesion.

According to him, traditional rulers who custodian of culture often play critical roles in conflict resolution and national integration.

In his address, the Arinjale of Ise-Ekiti noted that the chieftaincy titles conferred on notable Nigerians are aimed at promoting peace and unity in the country.

the monarch, therefore, urged the newly installed chiefs to always work for progress of Nigeria and humanity.

Also speaking, the member representing Ekiti South Federal constituency 1, Rufus Ojuawo, who is a native of the town explained that the installation of the Speaker symbolized unity and love the Yoruba race has for other ethnic groups in the country.

Mr Ojuawo, therefore, called on Nigerians to always live in love, peace and harmony.
