The United Nations Positive Livelihood Award Center, UN-POLAC, has appointed the board chairman of the Sokoto-Rima River Basin Development Authority, SRRBDA, Hassan Danbaba, as an International Peace Advocate.
DAILY NIGERIAN reports that UN-POLAC is an international autonomous institution, established in 2001 with the UN and UNESCO following General Assembly Resolution declaring 2001-2010 as a year of peace and non-violence.
Conveying the nomination in a letter dated September 4, the UN-POLAC Director-General, Prof. Halo B. Eton, said the centre found Mr Danbaba worthy of appointment “for exemplifying POLAC’s mandate of enhancing the effectiveness of the UN Sustainable Development Goals and UNESCO culture of peace project, particularly the maintenance of peace and security and the restoration of human dignity”.
To this end, according to the letter, the award ceremony would be held on Thursday, December 10, at the Nigerian National Merit Award House, Aguiyi Ironsi Street, Maitama-Abuja.
The letter added that the event would be chaired by Justice Sylvester Nguwta Nwali, Country President, UN-POLAC; Bishop Prof. Mercy Funmilayo Adesanya-Davies, International Director & Vice Chairman, UN-POLAC Advisory Council.
The letter reads in part: “In line with the UN General Assembly’s declaration, POLAC collaborates with UNESCO to commemorate the “Human Rights Day 2020” with the Theme “Stand Up for Human Rights”.
“This day, therefore, provides individuals globally a shared date to reiterate the fact that “Global Peace is a collective responsibility”.
“As part of the event for the celebration, there will be appointment/presentation of certificates and awards as International Peace Advocates to individuals of proven integrity who exhibit the ideals of living for the sake of others and commit themselves to promoting universal moral values, strong family life, social-harmony, inter-religious and ethnic cooperation and the culture of peace.
“In addition to acknowledging these special qualities, the appointment encourages these individuals to be role models in community services & peace making.
“The appointment comes with benefits of UN-POLAC Certificate of Appointment, UN-POLAC International Identity Card, Investiture Apparel, UN-POLAC flag of Authority hoisted at any place of your choice, UN-POLAC special Vehicle Plate Number in collaboration with FRSC, (available on request).
“As an Intentional Peace Advocate, you can be called upon for peace making, conflict resolution and other activities that encourage peace and positive living in line with best international practices.”
