The United Nations Positive Livelihood Award Center, UN-POLAC, has appointed the board chairman of the Sokoto-Rima River Basin Development Authority, SRRBDA, Hassan Danbaba, as an International Peace Advocate.

DAILY NIGERIAN reports that UN-POLAC is an international autonomous institution, established in 2001 with the UN and UNESCO following General Assembly Resolution declaring 2001-2010 as a year of peace and non-violence.

Conveying the nomination in a letter dated September 4, the UN-POLAC Director-General, Prof. Halo B. Eton, said the centre found Mr Danbaba worthy of appointment “for exemplifying POLAC’s mandate of enhancing the effectiveness of the UN Sustainable Development Goals and UNESCO culture of peace project, particularly the maintenance of peace and security and the restoration of human dignity”.
