The State Security Service, SSS, has denied laying siege to the offices of the key members of the New Nigeria Peoples Party, NNPP, in Kano.
The NNPP had earlier on Wednesday raised an alarm that the service had laid siege to their campaign office and planted weapons in order to frame them up.
“Today, Wednesday 22nd February, 2023, three days to the general elections, men of the Department of State Security, DSS, in Kano have laid siege on the Campaign Office of the NNPP. The office of the directors of Support Groups and that of the director of Youth Mobilization were cordoned by men of the DSS.
“We wish to state categorically that our party will never be intimidated. The DSS must not cheapen itself and be misused by the discredited administration of Mr. Ganduje.
“Laying siege to our offices and threatening the safety and security of our campaign directors and campaign staff will not be accepted.”
Responding to the NNPP allegation, the spokesman for the service, Peter Afunanya, said the service is neutral and does not intimidate any political party.
“This is not a true account of what happened. The DSS in Kano didn’t intimidate any political party in that state.
“The Service is neutral and has offered all the parties equal opportunities to carry out their activities.
“It however, carried out a legal security operation and valid search on a suspected property and recovered dangerous weapons including a gun, swords, daggers, jackknives, among others.
“The Service is committed to a violent free environment before and after the elections. A valid search warrant was executed on the property,” he added.
