The State Security Service, SSS, has released a former Politics Editor of Daily Trust, Ibrahim Dan-Halilu, after a one-day detention in Kaduna.
DAILY NIGERIAN gathered that the secret service operatives stormed Mr Dan-Halilu’s Rigachikun residence in four SUVs around 2am on Monday and whisked him away.
Mr Dan-Halilu was arrested for allegedly championing the cause of #RevolutionNow, a group agitating for revolution in Nigeria.
In a telephone chat with DAILY NIGERIAN after his release on Tuesday evening, Mr Dan-Halilu confirmed he was arrested and questioned in respect of his Facebook post on #RevolutionNow.
There have been crackdown on the activities of the #RevolutionNow by the secret service since the arrest of its convener, Omoyele Sowore, on August 3.
On Tuesday, the SSS applied to the Federal High Court in Abuja, seeking permission to further detain the Mr Sowore for 90 days, pending the conclusion of investigation.
The request formed the main relief in an ex-parte application filed by the secret service, FHC/ABJ/CS/ 915/19, which was argued on by its lawyer, G. O. Agbadua.
After listening to Mr Agbadua’s argument, Justice Taiwo Taiwo adjourned the matter to Thursday for ruling.
