The Department of State Security Services, SSS, has invited the Kaduna-based Islamic cleric, Sheikh Ahmad Gumi.
SSS spokesman, Dr Peter Afunanya, confirmed the invitation to The Nation in a terse statement on Friday via WhatsApp platform.
“Gumi was invited by the Service. It’s not out of place for the Service to invite any person of interest,” Mr Afunanya said.
DAILY NIGERIAN reports that the invitation might not be unconnected with Mr Gumi’s recent utterances, alleging compromise by security agencies in the current fight against banditry in the Northern part of the country.
Speaking with Arise TV newsmen on Wednesday, Mr Gumi had accused the Nigerian Army of colluding with bandits which, according to him, resulted in the rise of insecurity in the country.
The army, however, denied the allegations, stating that their personnel always adhered to the rules of engagement and the protection of the fundamental human rights of the citizenry.
