The State Security Service has on Monday debunked report that it had laid siege to Premium Times online newspaper, as claimed by the newspaper in a report.
A statement signed by the SSS Public Relations Officer, Peter Afunanya, said the news piece is unfounded, “needless sensationalism and false in its entirety”.
According to Mr Afunanya, there is no such operation at the moment by the Service targeted at the Premium Times, its editor or staff.
He, however stated, that if the need should be for the SSS to discharge its duty, “it sure has to do that with every sense of decency and in accordance with laid down procedures”.
“The Service is not anywhere near the news agency,” Mr Afunanya added.
He, therefore, urged the public to disregard all reports about the newpaper’s claim.
