A Chieftain of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Jigawa State, Saleh Taki has called on governors in the country to stop the agitation for creation of State Police, saying that the decision would be disastrous to Nigeria.
Speaking to newsmen in Kano on Monday, Mr Taki said governors calling for the creation of State Police have failed to take into cognizance the danger and futility of their action.
According to him, such decision is dangerous at a time when the security of the nation was being jeopardized by those who were using their influence to precipitate anarchy for their own selfish desire.

“No one would be safe in a situation where by every state in the country is allowed to have a Police of its own,” he submitted.
Mr Taki alleged that governors willing to perpetuate themselves in office would exploit such advantage to stay in the corridors of leadership.
He said: “When you create State Police, you are invariably inviting disaster by making the business of maintaining law and order a difficult one.
“A governor would like to use the State Police under his watch to suppress dissent against his ineptitude. As far as I am concerned, I am totally opposed to such a crafty design.
“When you create a State Police, governors willing to stay put could take such advantage to muzzle the forces of opposition.
“We are only going back to square one. The issue of Local Government Autonomy would be the best way to maintain a lasting peace in the country” he added.
“What we need is for the President to take urgent and proactive support to consider the agitation for making every Local Government in the country to be autonomous.
“We are only deceiving ourselves for not taking the right step. Even the killings taking place in the country will only be on the increase if the State Police are eventually created,” he warned.
