The secretary to the Sumaila Local Government Council in Kano State, Dalha Alfindi, has defected from the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, to the opposition New Nigeria Peoples Party, NNPP.
Mr Mafindi dumped the APC alongside the entire 11 councillors of the local government when the presidential candidate of the party, Bola Tinubu, arrived in Kano to hold a zonal presidential rally.
At the rally, Mr Tinubu told a mammoth crowd at Sani Abacha Stadium that he was in Kano to dance in appreciation of the reception he got, expressing optimism about his chances of winning the presidential election.
But in the letter of resignation made available to DAILY NIGERIAN on Wednesday, the local government officials cited persecution of grassroots partymen by the council chairman as the reason for their resignation.
Inside sources told DAILY NIGERIAN that the local government secretary and the councillors, who were initially nominated to the positions by the Kano South senatorial candidate of the NNPP, Kawu Sumaila, resigned their positions to join their benefactor’s campaign.
The councillors are Mustapha Haladu, Sumaila Ward; Umar Umar, Sitti Ward; Nuhu Ado, Gala-Gala Ward; Abubakar Ahmed, Magama Ward and; Ismail Salisu, Gani Ward.
Others are Ibrahim Abubakar, Massu; Ma’amiru Nuhu, Rumo Ward; Atiku Idris, Garfa Ward; Umar Abdussalam, Kanawa Ward; Sule Adamu, Rimi Ward and; Danjuma Sale Gediya Ward.
