Salihu Takai, who recently defected to Peoples Redemption Party, PRP, has emerged the party’s governorship flag-bearer.
The decision followed the withdrawal of the candidate, Sammani Sherrif, from the contest.
“The candidate Sammani Sharrif Bashir voluntarily withdrew from the contest. In view of this decision, the party decided to forward Takai’s name to INEC as a replacement,” party’s state organising secretary, Abdulkadir Musa-Guza, told DAILY NIGERIAN.
“The party will soon take decision on the running mate, who will come from another zone other than Kano South.”
Mr Takai aspired for governor on the platform of PDP but lost to Abba Yusuf in a disputed primaries held at the residence of the party leader, Rabiu Kwankwaso.
He unsuccessfully contested for governor in 2011 and 2015 on the platforms of defunct All Nigeria Peoples Party, ANPP and Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, respectively.
