Taraba Assembly impeaches deputy speaker, elects new one

The Taraba State House of Assembly on Monday impeached its Deputy Speaker, Mohammed Gwampo, over alleged gross incompetence in discharging his duties.

Mr Gwampo, who represents Yorro State constituency, was impeached during plenary.

The motion for the impeachment of the Deputy Speaker was moved by the former Majority Leader, Albasu Kunini of Lau State constituency.

However, the assembly immediately elected Charles Maijankai of Karim Lamido I State constituency as the new Deputy Speaker.

Until his election, Mr Maijankai was the Majority Leader of the House.
