A 100 level Medical Lab Science student of the Taraba State University, TSU, Joseph Israel, has been summoned by the school authorities over what it termed “insults to the governor and the Vice Chancellor”.
He has been asked to appear on Monday, the 15th of July before a Disciplinary Committee.
A source close to Israel said he has received several threats before from certain quarters of the school over his usual strongly worded posts. It added that some of the students have verbally told him that he would be dealt with for freely expressing his views.
A terse SMS sent to Israel today reads: “Notice!!! Pls kindly take notice that you are required to appear before the TSUJ Students Malpractice Committee on Monday, 15th July, 2019 at the DVC Admin’s office by 9:00am to respond to allegations of Misconduct reported against your person. Tnx. Secretary.”
The source said although Israel has an examination on the date, the summoners insist he must appear.
A check on Israel’s wall shows the student is critical of the PDP administration, but supports All Progressive Congress, APC, and President Muhammadu Buhari in his posts.
The source said Mr Israel has been directed to print all his Facebook posts from January when appearing on Monday.
Contacted by DAILY NIGERIAN, the secretary to the disciplinary committee, Ahmed Farooq, confirmed the development, saying the student was invited to explain a series of allegations he leveled against some individuals.
“He has made a series of Facebook posts on his timeline, which the school deemed inappropriate for a student of the university to do.
“He who asserts must prove. So we give him the right to fair-hearing and invited him to prove the allegations he made,” Mr Farooq, a lawyer, said.
