Suspected members of Boko Haram terrorists have fired shots at Zone 1 Police Headquarters along BUK Road in Kano.

According to security sources, the terrorists came in three vehicles around 12:30pm on Friday and fired several shots at the building and then zoomed off.

The source said security is being reinforced around the headquarters to frustrate possible attack by the terrorists.

Recall that the terrorists had attacked the same headquarters during the January 20, 2012 attacks, which left at least 185 people dead in the state.

Although three senior police officers had confirmed the incident to DAILY NIGERIAN, the zonal command refuted the report, saying no shooting at the police headquarters.

The spokesman for the zonal headquarters, SP Abubakar Ambursa, made the rebuttal when he spoke with journalists in Kano.

“Our attention has been drawn to the report circulating that some terrorists fired shots at the headquarters on Friday.

“Nothing of such had happened. It is nothing but concocted lies by some disgruntled elements.

“There is a Friday Mosque at the headquarters, and as at the time they said that terrorists fired the shots, it was time for prayers, because we said our prayers by 1 p.m.,” Mr Ambursa said.

DAILY NIGERIAN however stands by its report that shooting actually took place at the zonal headquarters around 12:30 on Friday, a situation that forced the police to barricade some roads and beef up security in the city.
