Terrorists kill 60 at Goronyo market in Sokoto

Terrorists, often referred to as bandits, have invaded Goronyo market in Sokoto State, killing over 60 people.

The terrorists reportedly stormed the market around 5pm on Sunday, shooting sporadically at traders.

According to Daily Star, a Sokoto based-online publication, the bandits reportedly operated from for close to two hours without any resistance from security forces, who could not be informed of the attack as a result of the shutdown of Telecoms in the area.

According to sources from the Local Government, about forty bodies were counted as at Sunday night.

Updates from some of the residents of Goronyo confirmed to DailyStar that 62 bodies were already deposited at Goronyo General Hospital as at Monday morning, this is in addition to some of the bodies that were taken away by their relatives for funerals.

The sources also told the newspaper that many others are still missing as they were trying to escape by running into the bandits in bushes during the shootings.

Police could not immediately be reached for comment.
