A former national vice chairman, North west, of the All Progressives’ Congress, APC, Salihu Lukman, has claimed that President Bola Tinubu has failed in his promise to deliver “renewed hope” to Nigerians.
Mr Lukman, who made the claim during an interview on Channels TV’s Politics Today on Wednesday, lamented that things are getting worse under the president.
According to him, there are more ungoverned spaces under the watchful eyes of the present administration.
He said: “If we elect leaders, based on promises they made, for example the main promise of Asiwaju is Renewed Hope. Things are contained there.
“You read it. I am ready to challenge anybody including President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to let them produce evidence of delivery based on that document of Renewed Hope. Nothing has been delivered.”
He explained that his criticism of Mr Tinubu was not based on tribe or region as some people insinuated, saying: “I feel agitated when people begin to reduce this thing to a regional issue.
“I fought Abduulahi Adamu when he was the national chairman. For goodness’ sake, he is from the north. If I want to play that ethnic card, I would just keep quiet. I would have been in the National Working Committee, maybe with all the privileges. There are privileges.
“I made that conscious choice. That is because I didn’t come from the background where my mission in politics is about survival. As a person, I believe I can survive without holding a political position.”
Speaking further, Mr Lukman said: “In the area of insecurity we are getting worse and it’s almost like a free fall.
“And we need to be really really fair to ourselves, in the area of economy we are having a first-time where we have about two or three budgets running concurrently at the federal level. What that means is that, chances of corruption are higher.
The inflation has gone beyond an unimaginable level and the income of citizens crashed is enough basis for insecurity itself.
“I believe that the Asiwaju that ruled Lagos is not the Asiwaju that’s ruling Nigeria today, I believe that he doesn’t have the right people around him.
“I also believe that the ruling and opposition parties are all the same so in actuality Nigeria has no parties just politicians who act the same way.”
