Top Buhari critic, Junaid Mohammed, dies at 71

A former member of the House of Representatives in the Second Republic, Junaid Mohammed, has died at the age of 71.

The deceased brother, Ahmed Salik, confirmed the death to DAILY NIGERIAN on Thursday night, saying the funeral would hold on Friday morning.

Sources however said he died at an isolation center after testing positive to COVID-19.

A controversial politician, Mr Junaid was a consistent critic of the present administration of President Muhammadu Buhari.

The Russia-trained medical doctor graduated in 1976 and joined politics in 1978. He was twice elected member of the House of Representatives in 1979 and 1983 on the platform of the Peoples Redemption Party, PRP.

He served on the board of the defunct Oil Mineral Areas Development Commission, OMPADEC.

He left behind a wife and four children.
