National Agency for Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons, NAPTIP, has trained 332 of its personnel to enhance efficiency in the fight against human trafficking, an official has said.
The Director General, Julie Okah-Donli, represented by Olubiyi Olusayo, NAPTIP’s Director of Training and Manpower Development, said this on the sidelines of a training of the agency’s drivers in Abuja on Tuesday.
The agency, in partnership with Iria Motors, Abuja, is organising a three- day workshop for the drivers.
Mr Olusayo disclosed that the agency in 2017 trained 269 staff members and had trained 71 others since January.
Ms Okah-Donli said that the trainings were aimed at providing the workers requisite skills for their jobs.
“You will agree with me that, at a time when acts of terror, kidnapping, random attack and other crimes are all too frequent occurrences, one of the most significant elements in optimising executive protection services is protective driving.
“In fact, most attacks on law enforcement officials, especially the VIPs, take place outside their protective environment and the majority while in their vehicles,” she said.
The director-general said the training, which brought professional groups, such as Federal Road Safety Corps, Vehicle Inspection Officers and the Police together, was to help the drivers improve their skills in protective and defensive driving.
She commended Iria Motors for the bold and good initiative in assisting to enhance services of government’s agency, such as NAPTIP.
In his remarks, the Chief Executive Officer of Iria Motors, Michael Ehimen, said that the gesture was part of the organisation’s corporate social responsibility.
Mr Ehimen noted that the training would focus on safety, caution and general road hazards.
