Tribunal affirms President Tinubu’s election, dismisses Atiku, Obi’s petitions

The Presidential Election Petition Court, PEPC, has affirmed the election of President Bola Tinubu and dismissed the petitions of Peter Obi of Labour Party and his Party and Abubakar Atiku and the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

Delivering the judgment, chairman of the five-member panel of justices, Justice Haruna Tsammani said that the petitioner’s had failed to prove their allegations beyond reasonable doubts.

Justice Tsammani held that the petitions, lacking in merit, were consequently dismissed.

He also ruled that all parties would bear their respective costs.

DAILY NIGERIAN reports that all the five justices of the tribunal unanimously dismissed the petitions filed by the presidential candidate of PDP, Atiku Abubakar and that of Labour Party, Peter Obi, as well as the Allied Peoples Movement, APM, for being incompetent and meritless.

The court’s unanimous verdict included the following key points:

1. Both Tinubu and Shettima were qualified under the Constitution and the law to contest the 2023 election.

2. That there was no corrupt practices or non-compliance with electoral laws that substantially affected the outcome of the election.

3. That President Tinubu and VP Shettima scored the majority of lawful votes cast during the election.

4. That the declaration of President Tinubu and VP Shettima as the winners of the 2023 presidential and vice-presidential elections by INEC was valid.

5. None of the numerous key legal issues raised in the lawsuit were resolved in favour of Atiku Abubakar or Peter Obi.
