Uber driver bags 3 months in prison over internet fraud in Oyo

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has secured the conviction of an Uber driver, Michael Tosin-Lawal, for internet fraud in Ibadan, Oyo State.

The EFCC Head of Media and Publicity, Wilson Uwujaren disclosed this in a statement issued on Monday.

Mr Uwujaren confirmed that the convict pleaded guilty to an amended one count charge bordering on obtaining money by false pretense.

The charge read: “That you, Michael Tosin Lawal sometime in the year 2020, in Ibadan Oyo State, within the jurisdiction of this honourable court, with the intent to defraud, obtained gift cards from one Trevor, a white male by falsely representing to him that you are a white female by the name Cyndy Tyler from the United States of America.”.

According to the spokesman, Justice Odegbola of the Oyo State High Court convicted and sentenced the convict to three months in prison.

Mr Uwujaren also revealed that the convict was ordered to restitute the sum of $50 (Fifty Dollars) to his victim through the EFCC and forfeit items recovered from him to the Federal Government of Nigeria.
