Fear of the unknown has gripped members of the Kano State Executive Council as the 10-day ultimatum to fill out and submit evaluation forms for their performance ended.
DAILY NIGERIAN reports that in June 2023, during the swearing in of the commissioners, Governor Abba Yusuf gave a six-month ‘probation’ to the cabinet members to perform well or be removed.
However, after the ‘probation period’, the governor ordered that they submit evaluation forms within 10 days.
In a statement by his spokesperson, Sanusi Dawakin-Tofa, the governor directed the Secretary to the State Government, SSG, Abdullahi Baffa-Bichi, to issue the evaluation forms to the commissioners to determine their performance and subsequently, take action.
The statement reads: “The governor directed the Secretary to the State Government ( SSG) to issue evaluation templates to commissioners who are expected to fill them out and submit them within the next ten days to determine the retention of performing commissioners and relieve those who underperformed from the state executive council.
“The directive was based on a policy of his administration that he made known at the swearing-in of the commissioners to evaluate their performance after every six months to ensure quality service delivery.”
DAILY NIGERIAN gathered that the ultimatum issued by the governor was supposed to elapse on Friday, February 23, but extended by two working days, Monday and Tuesday because the evaluation forms were given to them two days after the governor’s order.
Inside sources at the SSG’s office had confirmed to our reporter that the commissioners had been complying with the directive.
But the sources are unclear whether all the commissioners had submitted their evaluation reports or not.
“I can not tell you whether all the commissioners have submitted their evaluation reports or not.
“The documents are exclusively with the SSG. We do not know the details,” a source who preferred anonymity told our reporter.
When contacted for comment, the state commissioner of Information, Baba Dantiye, referred our reporter to the office of the SSG where the evaluation reports are submitted to.
“I can’t say anything now because the evaluation reports are to be submitted to the office of the SSG. So you should go and make inquiries at the SSG’s office,” he said.
