An official of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has caused accident after hauling a heavy stone at a moving Toyota Cricket Wagon along Western Bye-pass, Sokoto on Sunday.
The commercial vehicle, with registration number SLM 56 AA, somersaulted when the stone hit the driver.
Witnesses said all the six occupants of the car sustained various degrees of injury.
On seeing the accident, witnesses said, the erring FRSC official and his colleagues attempted to flee the scene in their patrol vehicle, but were stopped by a passer-by who rushed to remove the key of the vehicle.
Sensing danger, the officials instead took to their heels. The patrol vehicle was later destroyed by the irate passers-by.
The driver of the commercial vehicle, Muhammad Sanusi, told journalists that they were stopped by the officers and as he reduced speed to park properly, one of the corps officials threw a heavy stone at him.
He said he lost control when the stone hit him on his right hand.
The spokesman of the sector command, Aliyu Kanya, said they were still investigating the matter, adding they would address the press after investigation.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Sokoto State Command, Almustapha Sani, however confirmed the incident, but said he was yet to be given details by the Divisional Police Officer in charge of the area.
