Niger State Governor, Umar Bago, has been caught in a video ordering his security detail to “slap and deal” with an Islamic cleric.
The governor also ordered the security operatives to arrest and deal with him for offering to give a closing prayer at an event.
DAILY NIGERIAN gathered that the incident happened during the fidau prayers for the late wife of his deputy, Zainab Yakubu Garba, at the deputy governor’s residence in Minna.
In the video obtained by DAILY NIGERIAN, the governor, who was, in the midst of sympathisers, requested a volunteer to offer prayers for the repose of the deceased.
When the cleric indicated interest in offering the prayer, Mr Bago became furious and asked if he was a cleric “are you a cleric?” he asked.
He then asked the security personnel to descend on him.
“Slap him, I say slap him very well,” Mr Bago ordered, “Oya, go and arrest him, deal with him very well, and bring him back”.
