The governor of Yobe State and chairman of APC Caretaker Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee, Mai Mala Buni, in company of his Jigawa State counterpart, Abubakar Badaru and other critical stakeholders, have met with Kano APC state stakeholders.

The meeting, held in Abuja on Tuesday, was summoned by Mr Buni to reconcile two factions of the party in Kano, led by Governor Abdullahi Ganduje and Senator Ibrahim Shekarau respectively.

Insiders told DAILY NIGERIAN that the APC leadership had expressed concerns over protracted crisis rocking the party in Kano.

One of the participants of the meeting who spoke with DAILY NIGERIAN on the condition of anonymity said the party had vowed do its best to avoid the recurrence of Zamfara APC crisis in Kano.

On the pending case at the court of appeal, the party leaders expressed displeasure over how the crisis led to a court case.

The insider said the party leaders avoided discussing the pending court case, but said whatever the outcome of the case, each side needs one another to succeed in election.

The meeting was then adjourned to Tuesday next week for further deliberations.

Mamman Mohammed, spokesman for the Yobe governor, said in a statement that the meeting was aimed at reconciling APC leaders in Kano.

“At the end of the meeting, the participants congratulated each other expressing satisfaction with the outcome of the meeting,”

“The meeting under the chairmanship of Governor Buni was part of measures taken by the party to reconcile aggrieved members ahead of the forthcoming national convention.

“The Buni committee is determined to resolve pending disputes to approach the convention with a a more united front.”

DAILY NIGERIAN reports that the APC in Kano is enmeshed in internal crisis, with two factions holding parallel ward, local government and state congresses.

An FCT high court presided by Justice Hamza Muazu late last year upheld the ward and local government congresses conducted by the Shekarau-led faction.

Dissatisfied with the outcome, the Ganduje-led faction appealed the case, seeking reversal of the lower court’s decision. The case is still pending at the appellate court.
