The presidential candidate of the New Nigeria People’s Party, NNPP, Rabiu Kwankwaso, has explained the reason for his absence at the opening ceremony of the 2022 Annual Conference of the Nigerian Bar Association, NBA, in Lagos.

DAILY NIGERIAN reports that Mr Kwankwaso and the APC presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu, were conspicuously absent at the event, especially as other frontline presidential candidates attended the event, which took place in Lagos.

Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Adewole Adebayo of the Social Democratic Party, Peter Obi of the Labour Party and Dumebi Kachikwu of the African Democratic Party, were among the dignitaries that attended the ceremony.

But the NNPP flagbearer, in an apology letter sent to the NBA President, Olumide Akpata, said he was unable to attend the event due to other pressing national commitments.

Mr Kwankwaso said he would have sent his running mate, Isaac Idahosa, to represent him and share the party’s perspective of a new and prosperous Nigeria but, unfortunately, he was outside the country.

The letter, released by Mr Kwankwaso’s campaign spokesman, Abdulmumin Jubril, reads: “I write to acknowledge receipt of your letter on the above subject matter and wish to notify you of my inability to attend this very important conference as a result of other pressing national commitments.

“Under the circumstance, I would have sent my running mate, Bishop Isaac Idahosa, to represent me and share our perspectives for a new and prosperous Nigeria. But unfortunately, he is outside the country at the moment.

“I, therefore, wish to extend my sincere apology for my inability to attend and assure you that the New Nigeria People’s Party share a common vision with the NBA towards our common vision of peace, unity and prosperity of our beloved country.”
