The Kano State House of Assembly on Tuesday explained why it disqualified Architect Fatima Yahaya, the only female out of the 44 nominees for Interim Management Officers for the 44 local government areas of the state.

Speaking to DAILY NIGERIAN on phone, the chairman of the House Committee on Local Government, Abba Garko, said the sub-committee that vetted Mrs Yahaya’s credentials discovered that she presented fake document to the House.

“After careful scrutiny, the sub-committee found out that she presented fake indigeneship certificate.

“She is not originally from the local government she claims,” Mr Garko said.

But sources told our correspondent that the decision to disqualify Mrs Yahaya was premeditated as the Speaker of the House, Yusuf Ata, as well as the majority of the members of House allegedly vowed not to screen female nominees even before her name and credentials were forwarded to the House.

However, Mrs Yahaya was replaced with a male nominee, Ado Bayi.

On Monday night, the state governor, Abdullahi Ganduje, swore-in the 44 interim management officers and posted them to the local government areas of the state.

The female nominees faced stiff opposition from the male-only Assembly and Islamic clerics in the state, citing religious reasons.
