Woman remanded in ‘guardroom’ for 6 hours for insulting sister-in-law

A Sharia Court ll sitting in Magajin Gari, Kaduna state, on Friday ordered that a teacher, Hadiza Abdulrazak, who allegedly insulted her sister-in-law, Sakina Muhammad, be remanded in a ”guardroom” for six hours.

Ms Abdulrazak, 22, an Islamic teacher, who lives in Rigasa Kaduna, pleaded guilty to using abusive words, saying: “I only insulted her back after she called me names.”

The judge, Murtala Nasir, said that the offence contravened the provisions of Section 232 of Sharia Penal Code.

Mr Nasir, however, admitted Ms Abdulrazak to bail in the sum of N50,000 with one surety in like sum.

He ordered the defendant to appear in court on August 19, for sentencing.

Earlier, the complainant, Ms Muhammad, who lives in the same house with the defendant, told the court that her sister-in-law calls her unprintable names.

“I have reported to her husband several times but he did not take action. I am praying the court to put a stop to it,” Ms Muhammad said.
