World Bank earmarks $500m to save lives in Nigeria

The World Bank has disbursed $500 million to 36 states and FCT Abuja for the Saving One Million Lives Program.

The State Coordinator of the program, Abubakar Sa’id, made this known during a meeting with private healthcare facilities in Dutse.

He said the 36 states and the FCT Abuja received $1.5 million cash for the program.

Mr Sa’id stated that any state that excels in the program would receive special grant of $500, 000.

He said the meeting was aimed at seeking their support and cooperation towards the success of the program.

In his remarks, the commissioner of Health represented by Director Medical services of the ministry, Haruna Abdu said the state government will continue to make healthcare service delivery its priority.

He said private health facilities were incorporated to give their support to the program.

In his speech, the Special Assistant to the Governor on Health matters, Bello Umar said the state government has recruited 450 health personnel to improve its healthcare service delivery.

He said additional nine hundred health workers would be employed while government had released N150 million for Malnutrition program.
