Sellers of perishable goods in Makurdi, have expressed worry, following the drop in the prices of commodities, as Christmas approaches, unlike the usual price increase in the previous years.
A cross-section of the traders told the News Agency of Nigeria on Tuesday in Makurdi that instead of a price increase, it was now a drop in the prices of commodities.
An onion seller, Adamu Musa, said the price of onions had dropped by N2,000 per bag.
He said: “We were buying a bag of onions from Sokoto State at the rate of N25,000.00 but as at today, the price is N23,000.00.
“Also, a bag of onions at Gashua in Yobe, which formerly cost N23,000 is now N22,000”.
Also, a pepper seller, Mr Idris Abubakar, recalled that in November the price of pepper in a small plastic bucket was N900.00 but was now sold for N700.00.
Dauda Ibrahim, an Irish potato seller, said the price of the commodity dropped suddenly tbis December.
“We have been buying a bag of the potatoes at the cost of N40,000.00 and it has dropped to N35,000.00 this December.
“Instead of increasing in December, as it was usually the case in the previous years, the prices are coming down,” he said.
