Yemen’s Iran-linked Houthi rebels on Wednesday said they had attacked an airport in a Saudi border city for the second straight day amid regional tensions.
Saudi Arabia, a regional rival of Iran, is leading a military campaign in Yemen against the Houthis.
The pro-Houthi television station al-Masirah reported that the drone attack targeted runways used by warplanes at the airport in the Saudi south-western city of Najran.
The broadcaster, citing a Houthi military source, said the attack was “successful” without giving details.
However, there has been no comment from the Saudi-led coalition.
On Tuesday, the Houthis said a drone operated by them attacked the Najran airport and targeted an arms warehouse there.
The Saudi-led coalition on Tuesday said the Houthis had targeted a “vital facility” in Najran with an explosive-laden drone.
The reported attacks come amid rising tensions between the U.S., an ally of Saudi Arabia, and Iran.
Since March 2015, Saudi Arabia, which backs Yemen’s internationally recognised government, has been fighting the Houthis, who control the capital Sana’a and other parts of the poor country.
The Saudis fear that the Houthis will give Iran a strategic foothold in the Arabian Peninsula.
Thousands of civilians have died in the conflict.
