The Yobe State Government has flagged off the distribution of palliatives to cushion the effects of fuel subsidy removal in the state.
The deputy governor of the state, Idi Barde-Gubana, who flagged off the distribution in Damaturu on behalf of Governor Mai Mala Buni, said over 400,000 vulnerable people would benefit from the palliatives.
Mr Gubana added that the distribution would cut across the 14,500 communities, targeting over 80,000 households in the 17 local governments of the state.
According to him, the target beneficiaries are vulnerable people, such as persons living with disabilities, women heads of households, the elderly, and students, among others.
To ensure timely and fair distribution of the palliatives in the local government areas, Mr Gubana disclosed that a subcommittee had been constituted with membership drawn from traditional rulers, reputable community leaders, religious leaders, and representatives of civil society organisations.
The deputy governor, therefore, urged residents of the state to cooperate with the committee and sub-committees for a hitch-free completion of the assignment.
In his remarks, the Executive-Secretary of the Yobe State Emergency Management Agency, YOSEMA, Mohammad Goje, said the committee would ensure the needy are not changed in the distribution exercise.
He also said a feedback mechanism has been set up to receive complaints from individuals, communities, and groups.
“The governor has directed that 400,000 people will benefit from the palliatives, and we just did the flag-off here in Damaturu, and the distribution will continue across the state.
“We have set up a toll-free line as a feedback mechanism to receive complaints. But we are determined to ensure that these items get to the needy,” he said,
