The Yobe Deputy Governor, Idi Gubana on Tuesday warned sanitation workers in the state against failure to wear face masks in public places.
Mr Gubana, who gave the warning in Damaturu on Tuesday at the inauguration of Environmental Sanitation Committees members for the 17 local government areas of the state, said COVID-19 protocols must be adhered to strictly.
He frowned at the refusal by some members of the committee to wear face masks at the event, noting that the act would undermine the effort of state and Federal Government in tackling the spread of the dreaded COVID-19.
“You are supposed to serve as an example to your people; if you do not wear face mask, who will?” he said.
He urged the committees to check the indiscriminate felling of trees and dumping of refuse to reduce the spread of diseases.
Speaking on behalf of the members, Sani Usman thanked Governor Mai Mala-Buni for finding them worthy of the appointment.
Mr Usman assured that they would educate their people on the need to keep the environment clean and recommend sanction for offenders.
