Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe has distributed palliatives to 120,000 vulnerable households across the 17 Local Government Areas of the state.
The governor, while inaugurating the distribution on Thursday in Damaturu, said it was intended to alleviate the sufferings of the vulnerable persons across the state.
“The distribution we are about to launch now is indeed massive, targeting 120,000 vulnerable households to cushion the effects of the economic hardships.
“And to provide food to the vulnerable persons and others who are actually in need.
“We have procured over 50,000 bags of assorted food items, including rice, maize, millet, and sorghum for distribution in the 17 councils in the state,” he said.
Mr Buni explained that the distribution process was made through a cluster of representatives of People Living With Disabilities, Mosques, Churches, Orphanages, IDPs and other vulnerable groups selected across the 178 wards.
The governor directed the State Emergency Management Agency to work closely with the security agencies to ensure safe distribution and transportation of the materials to the targeted beneficiaries.
“Government would deal ruthlessly with any act of sabotage or diversion of the materials,” he said.
Mr Buni commended the Federal Government through the NG-Cares, the North East Development Commission, the National Emergency Management Agency and all other partners for complementing Yobe’s effort towards providing relief to the citizenry.
Speaking, the Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs, Dr Mairo Amshi, said that the gesture was a continuation of Buni’s administration’s efforts to assist the masses.
Mrs Amshi, represented by Alhaji Hamidu Babi, the Permanent Secretary in the ministry, said the ministry had also rendered similar support to augment Governor’s effort.
Mustapha Muhammad, a beneficiary thanked the Yobe government on behalf of other beneficiaries for bringing succour to them.
Mr Muhammad said that the gesture would go a long way in improving the living standard of all beneficiaries across the wards.
