Former governor of Zamfara State, Abdulaziz Yari, absolved himself from the bandit attacks in the state, stressing that he had never directly or indirectly associated himself with the bandits.

Mr Yari, who addressed APC members in his house at Talata-Mafara on Sunday, said the fact that the killing is still going on even while he is out of office vindicated him against alleged the accusations being hanged on his neck.

“Now that I’m not in power, the situation has worsened”.

“I’m neither celebrating what is currently happening nor am I happy with the sad development in our state but l must draw the attention of the mischief-makers that no right-thinking leader will partake in the killings or arrange the killing of his people,” Mr Yari added.

The former governor pointed out that he had advised Governor Bello Matawalle during his handing-over speech at Government House to take positive steps in the fight against armed banditry so that he too would not be accused of conniving with the bandits.

He said: “I told the new governor that he should not play with the issue of security and I also told him that no matter how hard he tries, people will still accuse him of incompetence.”

The former governor said his party the All Progressives Congress was ever ready to give the new Peoples Democratic Party-led government in the state a very strong but healthy opposition aimed at moving the state forward.

“We will closely monitor their activities and comment quickly and positively whenever something goes wrong because we want development in our state,” he added.

Yari advised APC supporters in the state to remain united and continue supporting the party so that it would reclaim the state come 2023.
