The Association of Distributors and Transporters of Petroleum Products, ADITOP, has commended the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, for reducing the prices of Automotive Gas Oil, AGO, otherwise known as diesel, and Dual Purpose Kerosene, DPK, in the country.
DAILY NIGERIAN reports that the Petroleum Products Marketing Company, PPMC, had last week reduced the price of AGO from N178 to N155 per litre, while the price of DPK, was also reduced from N185 to N160 per litre.
Addressing newsmen on Friday while inspecting the distribution of petroleum products at the Kano NNPC depot, the ADITOP Zonal Chairman, Bashir Dan-Mallam, described the move as a welcome development, especially at this time when COVID-19 pandemic has taken a toll on the economy of most Nigerians.
According to the zonal chairman, the gesture would, in turn, bring down the prices of commodities and other social services in the country.
“The leadership of ADITOP wants to use this opportunity to commend the Federal Government and the management of the NNPC for reducing the prices of diesel and kerosene. This singular gesture is worthy of commendation by all well-meaning Nigerians.
“This is because the singular effort is coming at the time our Christian brothers and sisters are celebrating the 2020 Easter, at the same time when the Muslim faithful are also preparing for the Ramadan fast,” Mr Dan-Malam said.
He, therefore, called on all private depots in the country to support the NNPC by reducing their prices as part of their contribution towards alleviating the sufferings of the common man, especially during the Coronavirus lockdown on the country.
He further called on food traders as well as dealers of other social services to follow suit, in view of the current economic situation in the country.
Mr Dan-Mallam reassured Nigerians that ADITOP would continue to support PPMC under the leadership of Musa Lawal and management of the NNPC to ensure steady supply and distribution of petroleum products across the country.
