President Muhammadu Buhari has nominated Lauretta Onochie as the substantive chairperson of the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC.
The nomination is contained in a letter to the Senate President, Ahmad Lawan, read at Wednesday’s plenary at the red chamber.
The President also announced the nomination of 15 others as NDDC board members.
The president had in October 2020 nominated Ms Onochie as a national commissioner of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.
But her nomination was fiercely rejected by civil society organizations and opposition parties.
The rejection was premised on her affiliation with the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC.
Subsequently, in July 2021, the Senate rejected her nomination, citing issues of federal character principle as the reason.
