Court remands 40-year-old for allegedly raping 11-year-old girl in Benue

A Chief Magistrate Court sitting in Makurdi, Benue state on Tuesday, remanded Sunday Achir, a 40-year-old man in prison custody for allegedly raping an 11-year-old girl.

DAILY NIGERIAN gathered that Mr Achir was arraigned at the court for committing the offense, which is contrary to section 284 of the state 2004 penal code.

Police prosecutor, Hyacinth Gbakor, narrated that Mr Achir had on June 22, at about 11:55am, at Tse Agberagba, Konshisha Local Government Area, LGA, of the state, raped an 11-year-old girl of the same address.

Mr Gbakor explained that the accused had raped the girl who was returning home from the market where she assists her grandmother.

The Prosecutor further stated that Mr Achir held the girl and forcefully dragged her into his room and had carnal knowledge of her without her consent.

He, however, told the court that investigation into the matter was still on, therefore, appealed the court for a date to enable prosecution prove its case.

No plea was taken for want of jurisdiction.

The Trial Magistrate, Victor Kor, ordered that the accused be remanded at the correctional center.

He subsequently adjourned the case to September 14 for further mention.
