The Nigerian Medical Association, NMA, Kano State branch has donated some Personal Protective Equipment, PPE, to the state’s chapter of National Association of Nurses and Midwives, NANM.
DAILY NIGERIAN reports that the items included 100 protective gowns, 45 pair of boots, 37 pieces of goggles, hand sanitizers, hand gloves among others.
Speaking while handing over the items, the Kano Chairman of the NMA, Dr. Saunusi Bala, said the gesture was to assist the nurses and midwives in protecting themselves from contracting COVID-19 while discharging their duties.
He noted that all frontline medical practitioners deserve protection in a bid to curb the spread of the virus in the state.
“These materials that you are seeing had been donated to us by one organization. We then felt that we should not be protected alone, our colleagues from other medical areas should also be protected as well.
“This is the main reason why we decided to share all the PPE we get with other health workers in the state, in order to curb the spread of COVID-19,” he said.
Receiving the items, the spokesman of the NANM in Kano, Ahmad Hamzat, expressed appreciation for the gesture.
According to him, the materials would strengthen their confident to discharge their duties without fear of feeling unprotected.
He assured that the association would judiciously use the materials.
