Although he was not lucky to pick the All Progressives Congress, APC ticket for Sunday’s governorship primary election in Gombe State, Haidar Aliyu, has pledged to drum massive support for the party’s standard bearer, Muhammad Umar Yahaya in the 2019 elections.
DAILY NIGERIAN reports that Mr Yahaya got 859 votes out of the total number of 1721 votes cast to beat Mohammed Dan Barde, Farouk Bamusa, Idris Umar, Umar Kwairanga, Habu Muazu, Dasuki Jalo, Khamisu Mailantarki and Aliyu Haidar.
Speaking with newsmen after the primaries, Mr Haidar noted that despite his electoral setback at the primary, he remained committed to the ideals of promoting youth development, women empowerment and poverty alleviation.
Mr Haidar, who is a son of the first female President Court of Appeal’s President, Justice Zainab Bulkachuwa, stated that he had garnered valuable lessons and experience that would put him in good stead.
He, therefore, commended his supporters for rallying around him, saying: “I strongly believe we have proven the potentials of youths and we are glad we participated in the transparent process of screening and primary election.”
He added that he would support the flagbearer, Mr Inuwa who emerged victorious at the primary
“As I said during my campaign tours if elders possess the experience, the youth have the energy. If elders are the planners, the youth are the builders. If elders are blessed with the benefit of hindsight, the youth are enriched by foresight, powerful dreams and visions.
“We will, therefore, be ready to support our leaders for the growth of our state and nation to greatness,” he noted.
Mr Haidar, therefore, advised the APC flagbearer to also assiduously pursue developmental-targeted policies and programmes that would emancipate the state from the stranglehold of poverty, backwardness and underdevelopment.
