An assistant commissioner of police, Usman Danbaba, died on Tuesday after he was shot by some unknown gunmen on Sunday.
Until his death, Mr Danbaba was the Ughelli Area Commander in Delta State.
It was gathered that the officer was allegedly shot dead near the palace of the Ovie of Ughelli Kingdom along Otovwodo in Ughelli Town at about 8pm on Sunday.
Police are yet to provide full details of the incident.
Spokesman to the Delta State Police Command, Andrew Aniamaka, confirmed the death, saying the command was saddened by the incident.
